Open Sport day – a great SUCCESS for the PROJECT

In a celebration of sportsmanship and cultural exchange, our project recently hosted the much-anticipated Open Sport Day on Saturday, 09/03, simultaneously in Macedonia, Croatia, and Turkey. This joint effort brought together local volunteers from each country, who had previously participated in an online exchange program. The event aimed to promote physical activity, teamwork, and cross-cultural understanding among the youth while testing the effectiveness of our newly developed toolkit for volunteers’ engagement in sport activities.

Local volunteers, empowered by their experiences in the online exchange program, joined forces with project partners to arrange a day filled with diverse sporting activities. The teamwork extended beyond borders, creating a sense of unity and shared purpose.

The day kicked off with an energetic running race for local students and children in the town of Vodice, Croatia. Runners showed their athletic ability, setting an energetic tone for the rest of the day’s events.

Then the Open Sport Day moved to Kumanovo where a Dancing National Competition was organized. Elegant performances of young dancers in Latin and standard dances was followed. The day culminated in a street basketball tournament in the city of Konya, Turkey. The competitive spirit and sportsmanship on display were a testament to the power of sports in bringing people together.

All these events were live-streamed online across all three locations/countries through our social media page. This innovative approach allowed participants and audiences alike to experience the energetic cultural expressions of each region, fostering a sense of connection despite the physical distance. Rewards ceremony were held in all three countries, acknowledging the efforts and achievements of the participants. The live-streamed ceremony served as a platform to showcase the multicultural diversity of the event, reinforcing the idea that sports have the ability to transcend borders and cultural differences.

The success of the Open Sport Day was, in part, attributed to the careful implementation of the toolkit developed within the project. Our teams followed guidelines for volunteer recruitment, skill development through sports-based activities, and efficient volunteer management. The event served as a practical test for the toolkit’s viability in real-world scenarios.
Beyond the physical activities, the Open Sport Day played a crucial role in enhancing the digital competences of our club members. Live streaming, online coordination, and digital communication were integral components of the event, contributing to the overall skill development of those involved.

The Open Sport Day was a definite success, not only in promoting physical activity and cross-cultural understanding but also in showcasing the potential of our toolkit for practical implementation. This event exemplified the positive impact that sports and cooperative efforts can have on communities, fostering a sense of unity and appreciation for diversity. As we reflect on this memorable day, we are eager to build on this success and continue promoting the values of sports, teamwork, and cultural exchange in our future activities.
